Misconceptions
- I don’t have a
chimney!
This is a common response for people who do not have a fireplace,
The fact is that any combustible heating unit requires a chimney
otherwise, how would the carbon monoxide get out of the house. Whether
you heat your home with Oil or Gas, you do have a chimney!
- My boiler man
cleans the chimney!
This is a large misconception, it is very understandable that you
would put your faith in your boiler man, which is fine. If you’ve
ever noticed your boiler man does not have ladders on there
trucks. The reason is that they are not licensed or insured to go
on your roof, therefore, they do not clean your chimney.
- I don’t need my
fireplace cleaned, I just light a huge fire and it burns all of
the creosote out of the chimney!
This is very dangerous, If you light an intense fire in the
attempt to burn out all the debri, first, it is an uncontrolled
fire, that can shoot embers onto your roof, or the intensity of
the fire can damage your chimneys liner.
- I have gas heat,
It burns clean so the chimney doesn’t need to be cleaned!
Gas heat does burn clean, but it is more important to have your chimney
cleaned & checked with gas, because of the dangers of Carbon
Monoxide, Its colorless, odorless, and tasteless, so it cant be
detected until its too late!
- I don’t need a rain cap,
I never had one in the past!
